Simserhof

We headed off this morning on our way towards Munich. On the way, we stopped off at Simserhof, an ouvrage (defence station) on the Maginot Line. The Maginot Line was built by the French government between the two world wars to protect the border. It was a fascinating place to visit and really brought the idea of this defence approach to life. The blip was taken in one of the many tunnels.

We stayed longer than originally planned as it was so interesting. We'd had a vague plan to visit the citadel in Bitche but we were too short on time for that. So - on this trip we'll have 99 visits, but Bitche ain't one...

Back on the road we were soon over the border and made good time on the autobahn down to Munich. A quick check-in then we went by bus and U-bahn in to the city centre for food and photos. We love pictures of the U-bahn stations (inspired in particular by MildlyOffensive's series) so we had a get a couple of our own. We particularly liked Karlsplatz (see the extra).
