Maeve the Deerhound at Carskey Bay

16.3C with plenty of sunny sunshine. Light Westerly breeze.

Grocery shopping over by mid morning. We left Maeve the Deerhound at home again.

We went the ten miles or so South to Southend then followed the road round past Dunaverty beach to Carskey Bay where we had a walk with Maeve from one end of the beach to the other and back. There were a few people on the beach when we arrived but by the time we were half way along we had it all to ourselves. The sea was very calm. Small waves were breaking on the shore. Maeve didn't paddle, although she got her paws wet two or three times when a wave rushed up the beach and caught her out.

A young seal popped up when were coming back along to the car. Then we heard the unmistakable drone of heavy aircraft engines and we saw what looked very much like a Lancaster bomber come over the headland and fly along the coast not far out from shore. It turned somewhere over the Firth of Clyde and came back, heading for the coast of Northern Ireland with a fighter flying escort high above. Either a Hurricane or Spitfire but too far away to pick out which. I checked on the web later and there was an Air show in Coleraine today, so I think aeroplanes from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight would be the logical candidates for the ones we saw.

There were a few seals on the rocks and swimming just offshore at Kiel when we came back along past the old cemetery, but not so many as last week. Still hunting probably as the tide wouldn't be fully in until 3pm.

On the way to Southend we had checked the farm stand for Little Farm. There were four boxes of eggs. One bag of rocket, bags of French beans, bags of Mangetout, bags of Fine beans, bags of fresh peas, Rhubarb, Curly Kale, Cucumbers, Courgettes, Carrots, and two Strawberry plants for sale. We bought eggs, French beans, and fine beans.

F1 from Monza on the telly this afternoon ... and there was cake with local vanilla ice cream with tablet pieces.
