Fireman Dave

Believe it or not, when I was a kid, NSW fire fighters still wore these wonderful old brass helmets. Needless to say, I am beginning to feel very old indeed. Mind you the sight of firemen roaring past, clinging to the brass railings of big red siren blaring fire engines, wearing these fabulous hats and big black coats with shiny brass buttons on them was altogether too much for a 6 year old boy. I wanted to BE one of those fellas when I grew up. Never did. (sigh). When the clothing got sensible it just didn't seem exciting anymore.
