Everyday I Write The Book

Going 'round in circles

After an interesting morning's workshop exploring possible futures in the NHS (again) I fought my way around the M25, parked up and met The Girl Racer in Woking to go to London. We had to have wraps and chips at the Woking Food Festival as I hadn't eaten and she took little persuading. These were very good, particularly the chips (with rosemary and garlic - awesome).

We wanted to do a little photo tutoring but before we could get started The DIzzle rang to say he was in Trafalgar Square with his Uncle S. So we took them for coffee in the National Gallery tea shop. I was mildly astonished (can you say that?) when Uncle S. said he had never set foot in the National Gallery despite having been a Londoner for nearly half a century.

After a pleasant half hour we went off to Covent Garden where The Girl Racer bought a bra and I experimented with the remote control on my LX-100. Good for street photography.

Then we walked over to Clerkenwell and pottered around Coram's fields, had a drink in the excellent Lamb pub (which has a little Courtyard at the rear and sells Youngs beer). We chose circles for our photographic challenge and The Girl Racer took up the mantle enthusiastically.

We had some supper in Kin which was a real find; brilliant South East Asian food, lovely little place, great staff, really good value. Don't miss it, its fab.

After that we walked down to Fleet Street and through the Inns around Temple Church, which were lovely and really got The Girl Racer going on the chosen theme. Before crossing the river at Blackfriars we found a huge model of London in 1666 floating on the Thames, made of wood; on Sunday Night they are going to set it on fire as part of the commemoration of the Great Fire of London. Should be spectacular, it must be a hundred foot long.

After that we wandered down the South Bank, saw a tree decorated in protest against the planned Garden Bridge, took some more pictures, and got the train home tired but happy.

Great day - a few extras on the circles theme ...
