Mystery object...

Most of the day was spent enetering data, and by the time I thought about photography it was cloudy and wet. I couldn't find anything inspiring in the garden, so decided to look for inspiritaion in the house. Can anyone guess what I found? There is a tale attached, but it will have to wait for another evening...
