Sgwarnog: In the Field

Painted Lady

Basking in the warm late afternoon sunshine of the community garden, a Painted Lady. Across the road in the graveyard I glimpsed a Holly Blue again, but once more too elusive for a photo.

Later, it was back down to Valley Parade for a glimpse of the new look Checkatrade Trophy format, with Bradford City hosting Stoke City U23 in one of the opening group matches (extra). Apparently I should have been boycotting it, although I'm sufficiently out of the loop to have not known anything about said boycott until reading media reports later. It was a curiosity of a game, but entertaining. Charlie Adam was a suitable panto villain but clearly still in a class of his own on the pitch. Bradford gave a number of academy youngsters their debut but kept an experienced group in defence. Sattelmaier did a fine job of tipping away a number of Stoke's long-range shots; City sneaked a goal and kept it at 1-0. I'm glad I went.
