Exeter

We had planned to visit Exeter one day during our Devon trip and today was the day.  It was a lovely day when we set off.  Fifteen minutes into the journey and BB had a bleeding nose – and typically we had no tissues or wipes – so we had to make the best of what we had.  He was also feeling sick, so we had an extended break in a lay-by.

We eventually got to Exeter, parked and wandered along the main street, ending up at the cathedral.  BB (by this time feeling much better) was hungry so we had lunch in the cathedral café.  Suitably replenished, we went to explore the cathedral.  BB got a kids trail, so he and I had lots of things to find, which was a very interesting way of exploring and finding out about the cathedral.

From the cathedral we went down to the quayside and walked along the river. The weather changed from damp and cold to hot and sunny which was good.  We witnessed a massive swan fight on the river, which was quite distressing.  They eventually separated, but were still chasing each other.

We headed back to town, had a look in a few shops, before making use of a money-off voucher in a well-known pizza restaurant.

We had a pleasant time in Exeter, but were a little under whelmed.  There is probably a whole lot of Exeter that we didn’t find.

Here’s a view of the magnificent cathedral interior.  It has the longest stretch of unbroken Gothic vaulting in the world.
