View of Abu Dhabi's old town. Yes, old town. Built in the 1960s as a strategic decision to put the place on the map and use up oil income. There are seven expats for every local . . . eight million people in total. The expats are called expats no matter they clean toilets or account for state-run companies' profits and all are welcome.
My hotel has been closed because the adjacent tower block under construction went on fire and we were bussed to a sister hotel in the edge of town - all very efficiently. All my work papers for tomorrow are inside the closed hotel with my fresh shirt and deodorant stick. Wish me luck!
