The pilgrimage route

There are many pilgrimage routes across France to Compostela and most of them meet at St Jean de pied port'. Those following the St Jacques route often carry a scallop shell and look out for logis and guest houses that display one outside as a place to find overnight hospitality. We parked the car at one end of the town and walked the cobbled street steeply down to the river and even more steeply up the other side to the Citadel. A short rest and then the long walk back! . The greatest distance I have been able to manage since February! This morning we had steady warm drizzle after overnight rain, but it is dry this afternoon, although a bit grey, and 24degrees.
