The Giving Tree
The tree talking to the boy who is now an old man in the story...
"I wish that I could give you something...but I have nothing left. I am just an old stump. I am sorry..." I don't need very much now," said the boy, "just a quiet place to sit and rest. I am very tired." "Well," said the tree, straightning herself up as much as she could, "well, an old stump is good for sitting and resting. Come, Boy, sit down. Sit down and rest." And the boy did. And the tree was happy. ...The End...
These are the last few lines of my all time favorite childrens book called The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. I couldn't help thinking of this book when I saw this tree stump tonight as I was taking a walk around my neighborhood. Good read if you haven't done so yet.
