Mansfield Traquair

The Mansfield Traquair was originally consecrated as a church in 1876 and from 1893 - 1901 Phoebe Traquair painted the murals on the walls that led to the building being called the Sistene Chapel of the North. The church closed in 1958 and laid empty until 1988 when it was sold to the Edinburgh Brick Company. However, in 1997 Edinburgh Council served a compulsory purchase order on the owners and lottery funding allowed a restoration of the building and its murals to its original state. It is now used for weddings, conferences and even the Whisky Fringe that I was at a few weeks ago.
