Torphichen Preceptory

Built from around 1140, this was the headquarters of the Knights Hospitaller of the Order of St John of Jerusalem in Scotland. A mix of medics and warriors it would seem and all tied up with the Crusades.
William Wallace held his last parliament here before the battle of Falkirk and it seems after the battle Edward the 1st (Longshanks) came here for a bit of A&E treatment after his horse trod on him.
Funny to think all this history is right on my doorstep!
