Through the window #2
Another possible entry for the weekly challenge, Churches. These windows are from St. Mary's Church near Fulford. The information on the plaque provided by the Salt Spring Island Historical Society reads:
"In 1889 farmer John Sparrow gave this land as a cemetery after his son, age 19, was accidentally shot by pitlampers. Saltspring's first Anglican rector, the Rev. Belton Haslam, assembled lumber at Fulford beach, and his successor, the Rev. Edward Wilson, used five volunteer wagons and teams to cart it here for Fred Raynes to build this church. Bishop Perrin consecrated it on June 3, 1894, two years after completion of St. Mark's at Central Settlement. Inherited from Victoria were pews from the second wooden cathedral and vestry windows from St. John's, the 'Iron Church'."
Some information about St. John the Divine Anglican Church which was imported from England.
Another scorcher here today. It's supposed to cool down on the weekend and we might even get some rain. That would be lovely!
