Abstract Thursday: "Fun" - Frieze Art!

What fun! - Youoregon1 has given us the title "Fun" for today's Abstract Thursday blips.

After pondering for a moment I decided to blip a photo of this frieze art. Although the area photographed here is 2.2 metres wide and 3.3 metres long, it forms only part of the full frieze which is 10.4 metres long! 3.3 metres of it was all I could get on the photo even though I was standing 7 steps up on a ladder looking down at the frieze which was unrolled on the floor, using my zoom at its widest setting (18mm on APS-C format).

"From whence did it come?" you may well ask - and "Why is it fun?".  Well it was an art project done by Son#2, eleven years ago when he was doing an art foundation course between leaving school and going to university to study maths. I understand that he painted to music, letting the music inspire his brush strokes. And I'm sure he had great fun doing it - and I had fun looking at it again for the first time in 11 years as it normally lives, rolled-up, in our attic. (And before you ask, he doesn't drink at all nor does he take any other psychoactive drugs - he did this stone cold sober!)

At the end of the year when the students had their exhibition, you won't be surprised to learn that this was the largest exhibit on display.

Needless to say it's still stored in our house until he gets a big enough house of his own, so it's just as well it can be rolled up.

(PS message to our blip buddies in the Newcastle upon Tyne area: Gosforth Camera Club, of which I'm a member, has just mounted an exhibition of members' photos in Newcastle Central Library, starting tomorrow for almost 2 weeks. If you're in the vicinity please do pop in and have a look at them. It includes two of my photos which have been blipped in the past, here and the extra here.)
