Change of use

This pretty cottage was once a travellers inn on a busy road. Then a wealthy widow with very strong temperance beliefs moved into the area late in the nineteenth century. She bought up as many of the ale houses in the district as she could and resold them with their use restricted to private residences! She built a temperance hotel opposite this cottage. Fortunately three pubs escaped her zeal so we are not an entirely dry village!
