Spiky!

Not sure why the common name for this group of fungi is Spike. I found it today whilst we were doing our monthly Wetlands Bird Survey. I've never seen one before other than in books, but felt pretty sure of what it was, as it is very distinctive. The photo was never intended as a blip - but then I thought why not!  I think the species probably is Chroogomphus rutilus, although by the time I've posted this they will probably have changed the name.
