On top of the tip

Not an actual tip, but a reclaimed spoil heap on a former colliery and now transformed into a thriving nature reserve. In the photo the walking group had just walked to the top as part of this morning's walk and are standing on a mosaic commemorating the area's mining heritage.

I used to teach in the area and while driving home spotted the school's caretaker, now retired. I quickly parked the car and we had a lovely long chat on the pavement.  I hadn't seen him for years so it was great catching up!
