Ghost town Famagusta

Despite the heat we decided to venture into north Cyprus to visit Famagusta

Getting across the border was 'interesting' . Its a long time since I experienced border control like this. The guard went off with our passports and I was beginning to wonder if he would ever return ... Same procedure when we left northern Cyprus

Famagusta itself was deserted in 1974 and the whole town as it existed then lies derelict. It was a famous resort with hundreds of hotels - all derelict and untouched since then.

Photos were a big NO! Though you could get away with taking shots of the beach/sea. A pretend selfie meant we got this shot... It shows a couple of the old hotels ... Behind us were a hundred more ...but there was also a guard who shouted at people who pointed their camera towards those.

Interesting and exciting day ... so many shots I was so tempted to take but not worth losing your phone for ...
