Campervan Kid

Friday night treat

Well this is supposed to be the 'mini' portion.... Thought I would treat myself to take out and relax with a movie. Well I chose to watch 'The Wire' and now I feel drained, great film but the suspense has just about killed me.

Over all a good day. Highlight was collecting a sick pigeon from a toddlers nursery. I showed all the kids the pigeon and talked a bit about them. I said the pigeon was sick so I had to take him to the wildlife centre to fix him. One little boy, about 4 years old maybe asked 'what with a hammer?'. Now I have taken him making that comment in the Bob the builder sense as opposed to a horror movie sense!

Read a couple of frustrating and terribly in accurate articles about the RSPCA today. Why do some papers seem to spend so much time berating a charity which is only trying to do good? Sadly people do not always see past the sensationalist headlines and I fear the impact for the animals of England and Wales. I wish I could send memos every day of my work so they could really see what the RSPCA does for animals. For example today, pretty standard day I achieved the following:

- Rescued sick gull
- Rescued sick sparrow hawk
- Rescued sick pigeon (and educated some kiddies)
- Advised member of public about a dog she had concerns about
- Rescued sick cat, paid for vet treatment, if no owner comes forward will be neutured and rehomed but took the last cattery rescue space
- Rescued sick gull
- Attended stray cat, not sick or injured, trying to locate owner to help with neuturing and advised local residents how to deal with the stray coming into their houses
- Assisted police with a thin horse that's been stolen
- Collected gull sadly too poorly so I had to put to sleep
- Rescued baby pigeon
- Started investigation into three abandoned cats
- Assessed injured sparrow, wren and gull taken to local centre

This is just a normal shift for me, just one shift and I'm just one inspector, 16 animals assisted in some way and over 200 miles travelled. I need to think about the good I do instead of the one sided articles I sometimes stupidly read. #thisisourreality but I do the best I can.
Oh and for all the people who say we only turn up when the press are around, not one reporter in sight (and I avoid them whenever I can!)
