Himilayan Birch (Betula utilis var jaquemontil)
This wonderful collection is in the winter garden of Anglesey Abbey. Would you belive the newest gardeners have the job of jet hosing the bark, this is to ensure that algae does not form. In the trees native habitat the air would be dry not damp as here, so it makes sense.
I had to include an extra - the close up markings of the bark are just so beautiful.
