On Grammy's Lap
Dear Diary,
Today marks the 126th anniversary of my grandmother's birth. She was a very important part of my life; a daily presence and strong influence. This photograph, over 65 years old, shows me where I most liked to be...on her lap. Here we are engrossed in the Saturday Evening Post.
She was born in 1890, that is two centuries ago now which seems unfathomable to me. Queen Victoria was still on the throne and Benjamin Harrison was president. She was born a month after Vincent Van Gogh shot himself. There were only 44 states at the time and the US population was only 63 million. The great wave of immigration was just getting going. She road to town in a horse and buggy yet she lived to see a man walk on the moon.
So every August 18th I stop and give thanks for this wonderful woman who lived simply to care for others. I was blessed to have her quiet, steady presence in my life and I miss her every day.
