Garden Color
The yarn shop across the street from Flying Goat Coffee carries thread and it seemed like a good idea to go in there and get some pink thread before I cut off a new dress to shorten it. The thread was $1.59 and it seemed that the only thing in my purse was a credit card. Reluctant to put $1.59 on a credit card, I wound up buying wool and a pattern…ooops.
For those of you who have hardly had a summer and are despondent at the idea of the approach of autumn, I went to the garden to see what was left of the summer color.
The other day there was both a monarch and a black swallowtail butterfly flitting together around the zinnia bed. I have been out up to the garden numerous times since then, but of course they never returned. However there is still quite a lot of summer color.
There are enough tomatoes for one more big batch of tomato sauce and another of pesto before OilMan decides it is time to plant the winter . veggies. The zucchini is still growing strong and they are a new light green and white striped variety that is still tender and tastes good even when big enough to leave on the neighbors' doorstep and run away….OilMan slices them lengthwise, grills them, and serves them with butter and parmesan.
Son Matthew is between jobs and at home far too much to suit the women in his household, so we're happy to take him off their hands for a few days. I suspect golf and visiting breweries are on the agenda, and Claire has tasked him with getting an Aztec Mocha, which she still remembers from when she was here last Thanksgiving.
