Spring Azure

The Spring Azure butterfly is small and dainty. Each wing is about the size of the nail on my pinky finger. There are clover leaves in the photo giving a rough size reference.

The inside color of the wings is an amazing dusky blue which I've only seen when it's flying. Since it's mid-August this is likely the summer morph of the Spring Azure. This species is widespread in North America.

Conditions are hot and dry, and if it stays like this there will be more butterfly pictures in the coming weeks.
