Clovelly Without The Crowds

Another beautiful day and we headed to Clovelly, though not quite.  TT had a walk for us to do – Clovelly without the crowds!  It started at a hard to find National Trust car park at Brownsham.  We headed through the woods – first of all doing a National Trust trail with BB.  Eventually we made it to the coastal path and headed to Clovelly.  It was a strenuous walk in the heat, with lots of steep climbs (and step descents!).  Eventually we made it to Clovelly and descended the cobbled main street to the harbour.  Clovelly is a privately owned village (we happened upon another private village last year), and if you arrive by car you have to pay to enter the village. 

TT had been focused on ice cold in Clovelly for the latter stages of the walk, and headed straight to the hotel at the harbour for a refreshing pint!  We had our picnic and wandered around the harbour, before the climb up the main street to the top of the very picturesque village.

We continued our walk, which wended it’s way around country lanes and farm tracks.  We had to go through a field of cows at one point and couldn’t find the way out at the other side – I was relieved when we did, as cow fields are not my favourite place to be.  The remainder of the walk was though woodland which took us back to where we started – a much less strenuous walk that we had had earlier in the day.  We were all parched when we got back to the car and had to head to the nearest village for cold drinks.  A really lovely day.
