Brave little fighter
I tried to kid myself that my eyes were watering because of the sun, but in reality the sight of the little Spitfire circling Highclere Castle at the Battle Prom really got to me. It was so tiny and yet has such a history. It went to and fro many times against a beautiful evening sky and the throb of the engine seemed familiar - or was it just in my imagination that I could remember it from all those years ago?
It was a splendid evening in the company of son and daughter-in-law who had arranged the evening in celebration of our birthdays back in May. They laid on a lavish picnic, complete with champagne. We sang our hearts out to Land of Hope and Glory and Jerusalem and enjoyed an amazing firework display. And it didn't rain!
