What have I caught?

A lovely day with lots of sunshine. We all enjoyed the Trail round Appleby (see first extra) and the prize of choosing a cake for lunch from the bakery. Then there was a visit to the butcher across the road to get sausages for tea.
 
After lunch, and yet more paper folding (we are really into Origami now!), we went to Shap Abbey. We found that the Abbey ruins were undergoing some major restoration and flood protection work, so although there was the chance to walk in and on the ruins and talk to the work people about what they were doing, how they got to the top of the scaffolding and how they did not fall off, most of the time was spent by and in the river.
 
This is the River Lowther, which has not got very far from its source at Keld, but here flows past the Abbey. It is clear and clean and full of life, as the girls discovered. A long time was spent catching creatures and then returning them to the water, but I think Grandad enjoyed it just as much as they did. And no one fell in!
 
Of course the afternoon had to end with ice cream (see second extra). Then there was yet more paper folding, tea, another visit to the playground, some serious games of Whist . . .   and bed.
 

We’re exhausted, but the house will be very quiet tomorrow when they head home. Catch up with everyone then.
