Penlee Vista

She doesn't much like having her photo taken and never poses sensibly, but today she agreed to stand in this archway and look at the view.

We met up with an old college friend who lives near Exeter and took the ferry from Plymouth to Cawsand. There had been a squall just before the ferry departed and the sea was very choppy - about as rough as was safe in such a little ferry. But we managed to hold on to our breakfasts and the sun came out when we got here. So we walked along the coast path in search of a good view and certainly found one - with the Eddystone Lighthouse clearly visible to the naked eye.

Below the coast path was a sort of folly: built out of a small cave, with three gothic arches to catch the main views and a bench carved into the rock. I suspect it is just about sheltered enough to use in winter, but on a sunny and warm August day, it was perfect and just long enough walk from the village to ensure there weren't any crowds.

Pasties for lunch (we were in Cornwall!), ice-cream on the beach and a much smoother ferry ride back. All in good company. What a great holiday day!
