Speckled Wood Butterfly rests on the railing of a boardwalk, by South Kessock, Inverness.
In to town early, to take car for some repairs. Thankfully it wasn't a wheel bearing, but they did sort a few wee bits and pieces, so it's running smoother and quieter on the road. Took a wander down by South Kessock, to Carnac Point; along the coast to the end of the canal; then followed the canal until it overlooks the River Ness at the big Holm Mills weir. The contractors building the new road and bridge over the River Ness were placing one (or two) tonne bags of (presumably) sand and gravel in the river, to create two areas where the new bridge's piers will be in the river.
Bunch of kayakers came down the river, shot the weir successfully, and then one capsized and swam in an easy bit... past the new man-made island. Wasn't greatly impressed that whoever was leading the group seemed more interested in saving the kayak, than getting the swimmer to the shore. I'd presume it was a commercial outfit rather than a club, being midweek and during the day.
Extras:
- works underway to build the new road bridge over the River Ness at Holm Mills. Apologies in advance, but this person, being interested in such things, will likely be snapping progress here weekly... for a while; and
- some of the locals have been ensuring that the dredger Admiral Day, that's back clearing out the Inverness Harbour part of the River Ness, has something to work with...
