A little history of Nolte State Park.
Frederick Notle got this homestead as a direct grant from the 23rd President of the United States Benjamin Harrison.
The land passed on to his son Bill Nolte
Bill and Mary Nolte were married in December 1917
Because it was against the law for a married woman to teach they didn't live together and didn't announce their marriage.
The house that Bill built on the his property is still there and is used as the administration building for the park.
The property remained in the Nolte's hands until 1972 when it was willed to the state for a park with two requirements... No trees could be cut down and the park would be named in the honor of Bill Nolte.
