the port of calais

Up at 7 and away at 8 with a sad goodbye to Richard and 'A Bois Mort' (check out his website and facebook page!)

The start of the journey was slow until we got on the motorway at Saumur and then a fairly swift drive (Jon not me) all the way back to Calais. We knew we had loads of time, but I really hate being late, and it was hot. We had lots of tea & coffee breaks to make the journey bearable.

We travelled through so many other beautiful parts of France that we only ever seem to just travel through, rather than stop and visit. The country is so vast. We said we must get back more often. We just have to make ourselves afford it. So back to a discussion on the merits of tent v trailer tent v camper van. Where to go from here?! A discussion we have had so many times - although one thing Jon is clear on - NOT a caravan! Sad face from me, sort of. I like a bed (or at the very least an airbed without a hole in it!)

We enjoyed a late afternoon in the windy sun outside Calais, while Jon finished his FOURTH book of the holiday, before boarding our ferry. The photo is of the 3 of them squished into the back, still smiling, after 2 weeks together! I am typing this, from Calais port, lane 325 as we queue for the 18.50 P & O ferry, along with many other Brits. It looks like I am going to be able to blip on time today after all!

Au revoir....until tomorrow!
