After 5 hours I've got precisely
Nowhere.
Well back to where I started the day. The day started well, gifts from the kids for our 6th wedding anniversary and reasonable weather made for an easy tidy up of the caravan in preparation for heading home, although that was as good as the day got.
Started off on the road heading home and got about 30 miles or so when there was a loud bang and smoke pouring out of the car at both ends, managed to struggle on for another mile before conking out handily next to an SOS box. Called the AA out who sent a very helpful local mechanic who hoped to fix it there and then. Sadly it turns out it wasn't the quick fix he'd hoped for and it's going to be a reasonably expensive repair with an engine rebuild not totally out of the question.
Next stop was a taxi back to the caravan where Julie and the kids are going to stay till the car is repaired. I meanwhile tomorrow have to do my version of the movie, Planes, Trains and Automobiles , when I have to get the train from Swansea to Birmingham, then the plane from Birmingham to Aberdeen then a lift home to Peterhead.
It's going to be a long day although if I'd got the train all the way to Aberdeen I wouldn't have got back home till Monday morning.
