Ready for take-off!

The Spitfires were grounded today - probably because of gale force winds. Actually it was free Open day at the Montrose Air Museum  -  the place was teaming with civilians  -  not an airman in sight!  This MkVb Spitfire at the Museum gates is called the  'Red Lichtie' because during WW1 it was funded by the folk of Arbroath. It was built at the Castle Bromwich Aircraft Factory and delivered to the Montrose Airfield in May 1942.  It was lovely to see so many children enjoying themselves  -  hope they learnt a bit of history too!
