Andrew the Kea

This is our latest patient. A NZ Kea- NZ's only native parrot. What a larrikin!!! When I arrived this morning- he had completely turned over his cage- overturned food and water bowl,even though water bowl had a large rock in it!!!  This fellow is a juvenile- the yellow ceres above the beak shows this. He has lead poisoning, but isnt too bad, so will probably make a full recovery. We are trying to think of things to keep him occupied- our vet is going to get some parrot toys-things you can hide food in,etc, just to keep him out of mischief. they are very intelligent birds, and so much fun.
