Our emperor decided to convey his will to the nation today that he wishes to step down from his position while he is still alive. He's over 80 years old. It does make sense.
However current law prohibits emperors stepping down while still alive. Emperors are also prohibited to speak up politically under the current constitution set after World War 2. Complicated but there should be a way to let it happen.
