Conkers
The conkers on the trees are filling up, they will be ready for harvest before you know it. I remember borrowing my Mum's best meat skewers to drill holes in them. No; she didn't know - I think.
We used to try soaking in vinegar, bake them, anything to try and make them harder so they would become 'champion nuts'. Remember those bruised knuckles?
Not sure any of it worked though...
