Now it's time to take a rest

Had a good time with one of my friends at a university cafe. It's always fun to talk with him.

Checking a web corpus for British English, I found the phrase take a rest (11 hits) is not very common in use compared to have a rest (46 hits) or take a break (94 hits). As for American English, take a rest (79 hits) exceeds have a rest (24 hits), and the most popular one seems to be take a break (4684). Also there are some other collocations that contain similar words but do not sound very good for some reason, such as get a rest (only 4 hits for British English).

Word choice and collocation in another language often look intricate and hard to grasp, and I imagine it would be nice if I could find some motivation behind those usages.
