Growing old disgracefully

THE BENCH SLIGHTLY MORE SAT UPON

This is a tibute to earthdreamery's entry yesterday. The Prof and I sit on this one quite a lot, otherwise it might look like earthdreamery's bench. It is our reward for climbing one of the wee hills out of our village. The Prof was hunched up to keep the sun off his face as he got it burned twice already this week. Let no-one say that it always rains in Scotland. I mean, check out how dry that grass is!

Harvesting and preparing to store tatties in the afternoon. I usually raise enough to last 9 months, but the crop is poor this year, a combination of being nipped by the late frost, excessive rain, not planting as many as usual and throwing them in at the last moment in a newly developed bed which has not yet been well worked. Had to get them out before the slugs finished them. The attrition rate is normally 1 to the slugs, 10 to us, but this year I think it will be worse. Glad I am not a potato farmer whose livliehood depends on it - if you don't grow your own, don't be surprised if the price rockets this winter.

GOOD THINGS
Sweet peas - I am gathering armfuls every day and every room in the house is full of the scent
Kale - there is stacks of the stuff out there
Another sunny day - can't take any of them for granted
