last day!

we found a snake!
well, hudu did. we didn't believe him. we all went to check out this huge beast he described and it had vanished - though it had left a 1.4m long intact skin... so suspicions aroused, we kept checking back in the same spot by the lavender bushes behind the pool and there it was again! came back after a couple of hours. resplendent in its yellow and black stripes.

turns out it was  a western whipsnake. a big one too. glad we didn't find him earlier in the holiday or i might never have ventured to that side of the garden at all!

dylan is thrilled to have a snake skin to put in his "what i did this summer" bag for school :)

in other news.
Lilypops learned to swim! on the last day of our holiday she made it 3 times across the pool totally unaided. soon as she figured out she could breathe while swimming instead of attempting to hold her breath the whole way, she got more confident and much more able. hooray! so proud. 4 years and 3 weeks. pretty much exactly the same age as diddy was when he mastered it in Greece. no pressure, Callie ;-)
