Bit of research
I've been trying to find something out today and waiting for someone to get back to me to see if the information is available.
I know that my wife's Uncle Daniel Hutchinson, favourite Mother in Law's brother, was killed in action over Koln, Germany, 27 November 1944 during a raid on the Kalk Nord railway yards. The result of the raid was very good but of the 169 bombers, of 3 Group Bomber Command, taking part the only aircraft lost was the one that Daniel was a rear air gunner in. It was an Avro Lancaster of 115 Squadron.
He, and the rest of the crew, are buried in a war graves cemetery in Rheinberg, Germany. Apparently it was normal for all due respect to be given to allied dead when burial was carried out by the German military.
The only bit of information I'm missing is the ID of the aircraft, usually letters on either side of the RAF Roundel on the side of the fuselage.
Fingers crossed that the information is available and the 115 Squadron Association can pass it on to me.
