Watch the Birdie!
This photo taken of Alastair Cook an Edinburgh photographer who uses old techniques. This is in the style of an 1851 collodion shot using tin rather than glass to hold the photo.
At least I think that's what he said!
Collodion for those of a technical interest is "a gluey solution of nitrated cotton in alcohol and ether ". Nasty chemicals whatever the name.
Notice the white plastic cone shape behind the model's head, used to keep her head still while the photo is being taken. The exposure time is about 3 or 4 seconds depending on the lighting conditions. It took four attempts to get a steady and in focus photograph before the photographer was happy.
The model is Audrey. If I remember correctly!
