The Wish Tower, Eastbourne
Martello Tower number 73, this, like the Seaford Martello Tower, was built at the beginning of the 19th century to defend the coast from Napoleon.
I didn't know until I walked along there that it was their open day, so I had a look round for the first time. It's had a lot of work done inside, but needs a bit more to combat damp.
It's smaller than the Seaford one, but built along the same lines - basement stores accessible by rope and trapdoor) ground floor accommodation for an officer and 15 - 25 men, and a stone staircase to the roof where the gun would have been.
