In a bit of a pickle.

My 49 pence bag of onion sets from LIDL in the spring grew fine, but never really got very big. So a return trip to LIDL for two bottles of vinegar (21 pence each) and I'd have had a go at pickle making. New territory for me. Also threw in some bay, mustard seeds and peppercorn (nae muckle, just a puckle) and something else that seemed a good idea at the time but I've forgotten what it was. Oh, and a little sugar.

Apart from the superficial burns while sterilising the jars and eyes nipping from peeling the buggers and sinuses scoured from the boiling vinegar fumes it all seemed to go rather well. So come the 17th September (minimum maturation period) I'll be having a ploughman's.

Hurrah!
