Boom! Edinburgh festival
My mate Rory was up North for a few days, so we all met up in town for the start of the Fringe, and took Little un to see her first Edinburgh Festival show... Me and Dave had to wait until we were in our teens to visit the festival, but Little un will be able to offer a precocious critique of the performances...
She was quite overwhelmed by the vast number of people out and about and didn't quite understand the concept of street performers and was more fascinated by the fact that Edinburgh has red telephone boxes ... she was also taking in the strange looking costumes, the noise, and having to compute the new experience of sitting in a darkened room watching a show... But despite admitting she felt a bit scared, she did seem to enjoy herself and said she would like to see more shows... She's so attuned to the way that me and Dave respond to situations that she takes all her cues from our emotions... I liked her description from the day though... " a man was throwing balls (juggling) and ate his own beard ( yes he really did )"... "Rory claps like this" ( demonstrates a sort of low key asymmetric clap) "Mummy claps like this" (demonstrates enthusiastic pounding of hands and shouts 'woohoo') "Daddy claps like this" ( demonstrates a sensible cupped hand clap) she really has got us all sussed...
after the show we pottered to the museum, which is our 'in town' home turf... we all know the score there.. snack, dinosaur, hippo, animals, play in the lift, look at stuff that mummy wants to see...) finally we headed home as a slightly knackered and overwrought little group... Fortunately Tiddlypom conked out at a sensible time leaving Rory, Dave and me to an evening of curry and chat... Such an nice way to start a weekend...
