First Medal issued at the AOG NJ Stadium!
Well, folks, it was a very exciting morning here in NJ for the AOG (Alternative Olympic Games)! The fans went wild when the members of Team Syrphidae sent their two tiniest contenders out for an unprecedented Pairs Hovering routine. The crowd was on their feet for the entire 10 minutes (including this reporter who had sweat trickling down all sorts of body parts as she crouched in the garden trying to hold the camera steady and get the focus set...) The judges were so blown away that they issued the first medal of the day on the spot.
Next up, the Monarch Cats started a heated competition to see who could complete the first transition to a chrysalis. Right before my eyes, #1 wiggled out of his last set of caterpillar clothes and became a shiny green chrysalis. It remains to be seen if he can transform into a butterfly in time to compete this summer. And in other butterfly news, Team Swallowtail sustained some injuries (someone mentioned swallows under their breath...) but continued to compete like the champions they are.
The hummers, riding on a high from yesterday's Opening Ceremonies, took the day off to sugar-load (at least, we hope that is what they are drinking...) A couple of them were spotted trash-talking and they've been warned to keep it down. Apologies were issued... sort of.
Meanwhile, Team Cardinal has shocked us with news that they may not compete this summer! It seems that their captain is suffering from a shocking case of male-pattern baldness and he's not comfortable leaving the mealworm cafe to compete. Someone told him that mealworms hasten feather growth, although I'm skeptical.
The stadium is closing for the day as big thunderstorms are moving in and all the athletes need some down time before tomorrow's events.
I must say that I am totally loving everyone's contributions to the AOG. If you've missed any of the exciting events, please do check out the first two days, below...
