Venus on the half shell
I awoke in the wee small hours and had to get up out of bed as instructed by the bladder (only obeying orders...). On my way back I was startled to see a bright light shining through the window - was it a plane heading straight for Leith? But I saw that there were other (though lesser) lights nearby and realised that this must be what we used to call a clear sky and stars! It's been so long, I had forgotten.
But this was a big unblinking thing, fairly low down in the northern sky. So, without turning on any lights and, groping for the camera in the darkness, I tried a couple of shots through a window which could do with being cleaned. Since I couldn't see the display on the camera clearly (sans reading glasses), I had no idea what I had taken.
I was surprised to find, when I downloaded the pic in the morning, that The Thing had a visible crescent shape and so must be Venus having a Phase! I was delighted that the little camera could capture this, what with it being hand held and the hands being half asleep.
I can't remember if this is the correct orientation. Viewed large, it'll probably be quite blurry but more crescent-y.
