Banksia Nut taking shape...

    I have now begun my project of turning the Banksia Nut as blipped on the 3rd Aug; This process is called 'Spindle Turning'
    I initially cut each end with a hand saw so I could mount the Nut between the centres on the lathe.  You can see them in the shot above.
    Turning these nuts is a dusty job and having put on safety mask, Face mask and specs, plus my woodturning apron, I was to say the least very warm, but prefer to be that rather than breathing and getting covered with the fine wood and red dust(part of the seed wings) as in the 'Extra'.
    I am turning this one and another one to make a pair of candlesticks which I think will be rather attractive when finished.
As I go through the project I will blip my progress. There is still a lot more to do.
