Screens galore

Almost to New York, here we are in Long Island for an overnight stay to break the long drive up a bit. We've eaten out every night, and have discovered that it is completely normal to have multiple TV screens showing different programmes all on at the same time. This is a very different dining experience from any European country we have holidayed in.

Indeed, the norm seems to be to stuff restaurants full of devices, loud music or noise to distract from speaking to your dinner companions. Today we even had an on-table screen from which we could have ordered our meals, played knowledge trivia (or other) games and pay the bill without ever even speaking to a waiter!

We chose not to do this....We needed to talk to each other - how else could we decide our priorities for the next few exciting days?
