The 'Jesse' Window
In St. Mary's Church, Shrewsbury. St Mary's was not the first home for one of the finest 'Jesse' windows in the country. The window was installed here in 1788 after the collapse of St. Chad's Church nearby. It was probably made originally for the local chapel of Greyfriars but was removed ruring the dissolution of the monasteries between 1536 and 1541 during the reign of Henry VIII.
I spent a lovely morning in Shrewsbury, first at the hairdressers for a much needed hedge trim and then had a mooch inside this lovely old church, once famous for the antics of Robert Cadman, the 18th Century Steeplejack who between 1732 and 1739 performed feats of daring by sliding or flying down a rope from this Church whose steeple I blipped some months ago here . Apart from this beautiful window the Church is still hosting a wonderful exhibition relating to WW1 together with a more current exhibition of Calligraphy art.
Well, that's my morning taken care of, and then I went in search of a new ironing board - haven't introduced her to the ironing basket yet!!
