Evening out in Paris with friends
Friday
Some friends of ours from the States are in Paris for a couple of days and we had arranged to meet them in Paris for dinner. Bob is a member of our church in the States - he and Roger both sang tenor in the choir. He and his daughter Kerry had been up in Normandy and then Rheims, and are just in Paris until Sunday when they return home. We had seen Bob at church when we were back in Cincinnati last year, but we hadn't seen Kerry in quite a while since she lives in Alexandria, Virginia. We decided to go up on the train, and we caught one at about 5.15 from Bois-le-Roi. We got to the first stop, Melun, and people got off and got on, but we didn't move. It seemed quite a while before they finally made an announcement - they couldn't close the doors, so we would have to get off and get on the next train! With two trains worth of passengers on one train, not surprisingly we didn't get a seat so had to stand all the way to Paris. We then had to take the metro to their hotel. We had a drink with them in the hotel bar, then took the metro to Notre Dame area where we were eating. We had a short walk by the river before and after dinner, enjoying the sight of Notre Dame bathed in beautiful evening light, and then afterwards illuminated. It was around 11 pm when we finally put them in a taxi back to their hotel, and we took the metro back to Gare de Lyons, where we discovered we had missed the last regular train to Bois le Roi and Fontainebleau, and we would have to take the bus from Melun to Bois le Roi. This actually turned out fine - the bus was waiting right outside the station in Melun. So, an eventful, but very enjoyable evening!
