Buffalo

We have been to a delightful Lodge near Hoedspruit for the weekend. There were five beautifully appointed rondavels,  a large dining / living room, large verandah overlooking the river, another outside sitting platform with a view of the water hole and then an out side but undercover seating area as well as seating around the fire. For summer visitors there is a small pool to relax in. Altogether a magical place to relax.
Nyala Safari Lodge is in the Balule Private Game reserve and is part of the greater Kruger National Park.  Sadly due to lack of rain and the migration of the animals the area is dry dry dry. The animals are struggling to find food so moving in and out of the area.  We had two game drives each day but saw very little game. The elephant destruction of the vegetation/trees is horrendous. There was a herd of Buffalo, a couple of elephant and 4 rhino - one a mother and calf - so we did see 3 of the so called big 5. We heard lion and saw leopard spoor along with hyaena spoor but did not actually see them.
